KC's scene moves fast — always verify hours before you go. Joints sell out, kitchens close early, and pop-ups move. Call or check the spot's own page the day of. We update often, but a phone call beats a wasted drive.
Reserve a table
Pick a night and party size — we'll open live availability for Kansas City restaurants on OpenTable. Name a specific spot, or leave it blank to browse what's open.

The KC BBQ Status Board
Kansas City is a barbecue town, and barbecue towns lose joints fast. This is the live status — go to the green ones, and don't waste a trip on the red.
Joe's Kansas City Iconic Local pick
The legend that lives inside a working gas station in Kansas City, Kansas. Order the Z-Man — brisket, smoked provolone and onion rings on a kaiser. Worth every minute of the line. $$
Q39 Local pick
Chef-driven competition barbecue that grew up. Now with a fresh Lawrence, Kansas location alongside the original Midtown and Overland Park spots. $$
Jack Stack
The polished, sit-down KC institution. Burnt ends, lamb ribs and that crowd-pleasing menu across several metro locations.
Slap's BBQ Go early
Award-darling brisket and ribs on Strawberry Hill. Go EARLY — they smoke a finite amount and regularly sell out before the afternoon's done.
Char Bar
Smoked meats plus a big patio and full bar in Westport. It IS open — ignore the stale "closed" listings still floating around online.
LC's Bar-B-Q
A no-frills east-side smoke shack beloved for heavy-handed portions and serious bark. Closed Sundays — plan around it.
Buck Tui BBQ Different
Thai-meets-Kansas-City barbecue and one of the most exciting things happening in local smoke. Closed Sundays.
Arthur Bryant's
The most famous name in KC 'cue. Go to the ORIGINAL on Brooklyn Avenue — the satellite locations have closed, so don't get routed to a ghost address.
Gates Bar-B-Q
"Hi, may I help you?" — the classic Gates greeting and that unmistakable sauce. The Main, Cleaver and Brooklyn locations are all open.
Don't make the trip
These show up on old lists. They'll waste your evening. Skip them.
Harp Barbecue No location
No current storefront. The Overland Park location closed in May 2026 — there's nowhere to walk in right now.
Night Goat Pop-up only
Pop-up only — no walk-in storefront. Catch it when it appears at Fox & Pearl; don't drive to a fixed address.
Danny Edwards Blvd BBQ Closed
Closed. Still lingers on older roundups — it isn't coming back at its old spot.
New & buzzing
The 2026 openings KC is actually talking about — from a championship steakhouse to a 20-seat izakaya pulling national attention.
1587 Prime
Patrick Mahomes & Travis Kelce's downtown steakhouse inside the Loews Hotel. The big-occasion room of the moment.
Palm Tree Club
A rooftop coastal sushi-and-steak scene in the Power & Light District. Dress up, head upstairs.
Anjin
A 20-seat Crossroads izakaya and a national Best New Restaurant finalist. Tiny, precise, hard to get into — and worth it.
Car No. 551
BBQ & deli served inside a restored 1947 streetcar in the River Market. As KC as a concept gets.
Plaza Provisions
The new Plaza food hall — Lula's Southern, Messenger Coffee and J. Rieger all under one roof. Easy group pick.
Nour's
Modern Lebanese cooking in the Westport area. Bright, shareable, a welcome change of pace.
Cru Bistro
French bistro comforts in Brookside. Steak frites, wine, the neighborhood-date-night sweet spot.
Zero Zero
Handmade pasta on the Westside. Small, focused, and exactly the kind of place locals keep quiet about.
